The weighted Red Spider is tied on a nymph hook with a tungsten bead. The hackle is softish.
In fact the hackle is stiffer than planned in this example – but I use what I have to hand.
Despite this, the Red Spider is a useful fly to have in your box – perhaps better with a softer hackle? Perhaps…
